Boquete, Panama - Coffee lovers have a chance to bid on a pound of the world’s most expensive coffee, Hacienda Esmeralda Special Geisha, during this year’s Bid4Boquete thanks to the donation from Finca Hacienda Esmeralda owners Price and Susan Peterson.
The rare, exclusive coffee is grown on the slopes of Mount Baru, (Western Panama) where it is processed from selected,” handpicked coffee cherries, then depulped and the mucilage mechanically removed with water. The coffee is then fermented for as little as six hours, and then dried on cement patios and in mechanical dryers.” This produces the intense flavors of tea, bergamot, jasmine, honey and lemon and described as, “refreshing and lively citric acidity with a light, tea-like mouthfeel.”
Hacienda Esmeralda Special Geisha coffee sold this year at auction for $360/lb making it the MOST EXPENSIVE COFFEE IN THE WORLD. Now, thanks to the Petersons, this pound of special coffee is up for bid at the charity Bid4Boquete website: www.bid4boquete.com.
Bid4Boquete organizer Penelope Barrett says, “This is a great opportunity to win the bragging rights for what could be the most expensive cup of coffee in the word and it’s for a great cause.”
Last year, Bid4Boquete gave out nearly $80,000 to eleven organizations which serve the needs of the Boquete community. This year they hope to do even better says Barrett, “With the generosity of people like Price and Susan Peterson we can reach our goal and even surpass it.”
