In February 2012 Bid 4 Boquete raised over $70,000. 1. For the 3rd year in a row, Banco General has become our "Event Sponsor" with a $5000 donation. If you are in Banco General please say "Thanks" to Luz or any of the client service reps. 2. We have 108 items up for bids on our Auction Gallery Photo Album. Some good buys. Take a look and send us a bid or two. 3. We've reduced the price on the Bid 4 Boquete t-shirts from $10 to $7. We have mostly gray and green left and most are size Large with a few X-Large. Email us at bid4boquete@gmail.com if you'd like one. 4. We have these great wine bottle fabric bags made by the ladies of the Handicap Foundation for sale. Contrasting interior fabric, and ribbon draw strings with beads. Take a look. They're only $8 and can class up a cheap bottle of wine you are giving. And (believe it or not) the ladies are also going to make some fancy bags for the boxed wine (cardbordeaux). "It's not great wine; but it's Clos." These will be priced at $4. 5. We have one other item that is not up for bids but is up for sale at a good price. Dr. Matt Holstein, David Chiropractor has given us some certificates for a complete high technology analysis of spine and joint problems. This is a $25 exam but we are selling them for $20. More details here: Alternative Health Center. 6. We have a "In Memory" section on our website. If you would like to honor or memorialize a person close to you, this is an excellent way to do it. See the section on our Major Donors web page. 7. And lastly, if you have anything at all you can donate to help us make Bid 4 Boquete 2013 a success, please let us know. Be creative; use your imagination. Volunteer to be part of a committee. We need a co-chairman for the childrens games and a co-chairman for the bake sale. Is that you??? Penny, Bonnie, Anayansi
Most of you know that we now have 5 main beneficiaries but we're not going to change our name to Bid 5 Boquete. Our big beneficiaries for the coming year are: - Amigos de Animales
- Buenos Vecinos de Boquete
- Fundacion Pro-Integracion (Handicap Foundation)
- Club de Leones de Boquete
- Club Rotario de Boquete
We divided $60,000 among the first 4 of the above organizations last month and will include the Rotary Club in next year's distributions. Additionally, we have written checks ranging from $200 to $1500 to the following worthwhile local organizations: - Loco por Leer (Children's literacy program)
- Fundacion Alto Al Crimen (Crime Stoppers)
- Associacion de Reciclaje (REaL Recycling)
- Fundacion Biblioteca (Boquete library)
- Santa Lucia Children's Camp (for Casa Hogar Trisker children)
- Knit 'N' Knatter (making blankets, sweaters and hats for newborn indigenous babies)
- Club Activo 20-30 (local civic club similar to Jaycees in the U.S.)
We'd like to also report that we have obtained the consent of Anayansi Menendez to be one of "Las Tres Mujeres". This position was open due to the withdrawal of Nevia Mayers. While the person didn't have to be "una mujer" the name seemed to discourage any male applicants. In any case, we're thrilled to have Anayansi who is deeply imbedded into the Panamanian community, has a great business sense, and is totally committed to the betterment of the Boquete community. We need volunteers to help with organizing the silent auction, the bake sale, publicity, live auction, and numerous other jobs. Let us know if you can help out. We're also happy to report that Banco General has stepped up again this year as our Event Sponsor with a $5000 donation which is safely ensconced in our Banco General account earning interest. We're gearing up to begin soliciting donations for our next big event which will be February 9 and 10, 2013. If you (or someone you know) want to get some really great advertising and exposure for your business, product or service, be one of the first to make a donation and your logo, website, and information will be at the front of our Auction Gallery Album. Just email us with the details of your donation and we'll take it from there. We've already received a few donations that are up for bids and you can see them at our Auction Gallery 2013 Album. We have also put some of our indigenous craft items and our T-shirts on consignment at El Cacique Souvenir Shop on the corner by the Park. Stop in and take a look.
We have lots of big news to report. 1) We are in the process of distributing checks to our 4 major beneficiaries totaling $60,000. This money will go directly into the greater Boquete area for support to: - food programs
- spay/neuter/adoption animal programs
- Boquete library
- handicap services
- educational programs
- children's programs
2) In addition we have set aside $7500 in order to make smaller grants to other local worthwhile programs. We are currently accepting requests for these grants which can be sent to bid4boquete@gmail.com. Just send a simple email explaining your program and what the money will be used for. 3) Although we won't change our name, we are now (technically) Bid 5 Boquete with the acceptance of the Rotary Club as one of our major beneficiaries. The current 5 beneficiaries now are: We expect the Rotary Club to bring us a renewed sense of enthusiasm and a new set of ideas for fundraising. At the end we will be cutting more pieces in the pie but we expect the pie to be larger than ever. Welcome Rotary Club. For those of you in the community who would like to help out you can do it directly by becoming a volunteer for Bid 4 Boquete or indirectly by becoming a volunteer for any of the above organizations. For more information about these organizations, just click on their name and send an email. And no Bid 4 Boquete notice would be complete without reminding you about the spectacular bargains that are in our Clearance Sale Album . . . . especially for vacation spots, architects, and attorneys.
